On the 2007
winter trip members of hawkwing met with Jerry Farley, Executive Director of the
CRST Housing program known as Okiciyapi Tipi and were shocked by the cold hard
facts about housing on the reservation. So many families are homeless or living in
rundown housing with terrible feelings of hopelessness.
With these problems and lack of resources, the tribe has been left with limited
options, until now! This year hawkwing is starting a special initiative to help
fight this housing crisis. Already several groups have stepped forward with
offers to go to CRST this summer to help rehabilitate housing! But we need the
funding for materials to make this happen. We have set a goal of raising
$50,000 by May for housing rehabbing. This money should fix ten houses! We
need everyone to be generous and chip in what they can. If you can help with
raising money or are interested in putting your hands to work on the Rez,
contact us.
With the help of all of us – this can happen!
